About Krista Boehnert

Krista Boehnert grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan. Her academic and career pursuits have allowed her to crisscross her way across the country, living in five of Canada's provinces She currently calls Vancouver Island home.

Her first plays were written for the "Saskatchewan Sweethearts", a traveling children's theatre troupe, that Krista and her sister began and ran from 1994 - 1999. For this group, Krista wrote several plays featuring the characters Katie and Mr. Bear who taught audiences about literacy and Saskatchewan's history. She also wrote and performed two one-woman shows exploring similar themes. These plays were performed throughout Saskatchewan, at libraries, community centers, and provincial parks.

In 1996, PUZZLE PIECES was first performed as part of PlayFest '96, an annual one-act play festival staged by University of Windsor drama students. Giving teens a voice on the stage is what inspired Krista to begin to focus her writing for high school audiences and what continues to motivate her today.
