I just learned of a fascinating presentation given by Bobby McFerrin at the 2009 World Science Festival.

He conducts the audience in an a cappella performance based on the pentatonic scale, a musical scale that is found in nearly every culture in the world. It truly defies description.

My questions:

  • Are we born pre-programmed to know this scale?
  • Is there an equivalent in the theatrical world?
