The Theatrefolk Blog

Backstage.com published a great roundup where they asked actors, “What Do You Know Now That You Wish You’d Known When You Started?” This one really rang true with me:

“I wish I could go back 20 years and offer this advice to my younger self: Be patient; separate the craft of acting from the business and enjoy yourself. Most acting jobs do absolutely nothing for your career, so why not live in the moment and enjoy each role for what it is? In my 20s and 30s, I would’ve enjoyed the parts I played a lot more if I hadn’t been agonizing over the fact that they weren’t getting me anywhere. The patience I’ve found in my 40s has made me a stronger person and a better actor.” — Loren Lester, Woodland Hills, Calif.

I love acting but I despise the business.

Lots more advice here.
