Can Schools P(l)ay the Rent?

Holy Hoopla Batman! Check out all the fuss being caused by a school cancelling a production of Rent: School Edition.

It’s a classic case of he said-she said between drama teacher Ron Martin and principal Fal Asrani. Why was this production cancelled The full story will probably never see the light of day. (Aside: It’s not even clear that the production was booked in the first place. According to some reports the scripts hadn’t even been ordered yet. How can you cancel something that, technically, hasn’t even been scheduled?)

If the production was, in fact, cancelled because some of the characters are gay, then several very wrong messages are being sent, not only to the students directly involved in the production, but to the student body as a whole, to the community, and now to the whole world.
