I am loving being at Florida State Junior Thespians. First, I read and critiqued the playwriting Individual Event. Seven plays by middle schoolers, who for the most part were a great, interesting read.
This afternoon I judged Duet Acting. Some of the scenes I saw today were at a higher calibre than high school scenes I have judged. More than once I sat, wishing I didn’t have to start writing comments because I wanted to watch and enjoy the scene. That’s the best compliment I could ever pay!
Then, I taught a playwriting class. Again, these are middle school students. I wondered if they were going to be able to connect to the workshop. It’s for beginners, but still….? Well, shame on me for wondering. These students came up with ideas that at times were the most creative I’ve ever heard. It was exciting to teach and I can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow when I teach more playwriting classes.
Wow. What a great day.
