Playwriting

Off to Florida

It’s April and it’s freezing. It’s snowing. It’s depressing. And I can’t wait for Friday when I go to FLORIDA!!!!! Can you tell I’m looking forward to it? I want warmth! Actually the week is going to be very busy and I’ll potentially be inside for most of it – A full day new play workshop on the east side of the state and then off to the west side of the state for another two day workshop and then off to the Florida State Thespian Festival. A lot of travelling but also a lot of fun.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Emotional Baggage at Florida State. It’s the play that I’ve seen the most in production. It’s interesting to see the choices that directors make; there’s a lot of leeway to be creative with the script. It was a great challenge to write for me, because the play has no dialogue; it’s action only. It took some trial and error to figure out how to create a script language to adequately map that out. I’m still amazed that the piece works both in theory and in practice! It’s not always the case…

  • Hey Lindsay!
I was in your Florida east coast workshop today – the girl in the black shirt who had to do the comedic cry session, lol. I just wanted to say that the workshop was an absolute BLAST and your pieces were just fantastic to perform! It was such a learning experience. Good luck at the other side of Florida and I hope to see you again at State festival!
