Another article on what it costs to mount a show on Broadway. (See my posting about Spider-Man here.) I like seeing how much money is needed to put up the different shows, I don’t know why. Maybe because it’s so far away from any theatre production I’ve been involved with “” usually it was a couple of bucks and a couple of props.
This article talks about transplants from the West End in London to New York. It’s amazing how much more the Broadway production can cost. Don’t forget to read the comments, there’s an interesting conversation about whether or not the article is fair, and whether or not one city is more expensive (in general) than the other. One poster lays out some numbers for a particular show showing the difference between London and New York.
When all is said and done, the majority of Broadway shows I’ve seen have been incredibly impressive. I rarely have felt like my money wasn’t well spent. Are Broadway shows worth the price? Does knowing how much shows cost make that ticket price more or less valid?
What do you think?
