Who Likes Paying Bills? I Do!

It’s true. I like paying bills. Before you cart me away to a room with rubber walls, let me qualify that statement – I like paying certain bills.

Today I’m working on author royalty statements and payments for 2010. Unlike most people who are paid an hourly or weekly wage, playwrights earn their living from royalties. When we publish their play they receive an annual payment comprised of a percentage of book sales and performance rights.

It usually takes me about a day to print off the reports and write the cheques, and it’s one of the happiest days of the year for me. I love putting money into a playwright’s pocket.
