There exists in everyone the potential for good or evil. Laramie Dean's adaptation of Dracula asks the question: How much would it take to bring out the darkness inside of you?
This week we spread the love for Hansel and Gretel, the classic tale brought vividly to life by Shirley Barrie. Recorded live near a cottage made from candy.
Welcome to Spread the Love. This week we are looking at Hansel and Gretel an adaptation by Shirley Barrie. A familiar fairy tale but told in a very unique fashion. Craig, what do you love about Hansel and Gretel?
This adaptation of Hansel and Gretel is hard. There I said it. It’s not an easy adaptation. But it’s a very theatrical adaptation. The two main characters are sometimes portrayed by actors and sometimes they’re played by puppets. And it’s beautifully, beautifully rhythmic too. There’s a role for a percussionist who plays throughout the play.
It’s a challenge for sure, but it’s a fulfilling challenge. Lindsay, what do you love about Hansel and Gretel?
Well you know, sometimes plays are good when they’re hard. We know, we know, this is a hard sell. It’s got a small cast. But if you are looking for a challenge for your actors, if you go to feeder schools with the plays. It’s not challenging for the audience, just the actors – Then look no further.
Ok, that’s it for Spread the Love!
